Marc Thomas Kallweit is a third-generation photographer specializing in portrait, commercial, and editorial photography based in northern California with over 27 years of experience working with a diverse range clients such as Sacramento Republic F.C., Intel, Wells Fargo, Atlantic Records, California State Senate, Walt Disney Company, Westfield Galleria, Capitol Public Radio, Dorfman-Pacific (Stetson, Santana, Stacey Adams), Tower Records, California Democratic Party, Sacramento Magazine, Comstock’s Magazine, Sactown Magazine, Prosper Magazine and more.
Marc’s passion for photography began at a young age while growing up in his parent’s camera shop, Pardee’s Cameras. Marc started off as a sales consultant and darkroom printer, learning the ropes and fundamentals of photography from his family, and in particular, his older brother Michael.
In 1999, Marc moved to New York City where he had the opportunity to work with Annie Leibovitz as an assistant photographer during the completion of her book, Women. His time in New York also included work on sets for Bloomingdale’s, Sak’s 5th Avenue, Victoria’s Secret, Harper’s Bazaar, Vanity Fair, Vogue and Nike, among others. Marc returned to California in 2003, where he has been based since.
As a third-generation photographer, Marc’s passion for his craft can be traced back to his grandfather, Gustav Kallweit, a portrait photographer in East Prussia Germany. Marc’s father, Manfred, grew up assisting Gustav in northern Germany before immigrating to the US in 1965 to pursue the American dream. In 1977, Manfred purchased Pardee’s Cameras in Sacramento, where Marc became immersed in the world of photography. Pardee’s Cameras established itself as a leading photography supply company in Northern California and served as a major influence in Marc’s development as a photographer.
Marc has been a fixture in the Sacramento region for the past two decades using his distinctive style that always brings personality to his subjects and photographs that last.
